One-on-one tutoring
Our language tutoring program matches adult language learners with volunteer tutors for one-on-one sessions to practice English, learn about the local community, and share cultural knowledge. The learners and tutors meet weekly for 1 hour for 5 months in person or online. Volunteers are fluent or native language speakers with tutor training, but are not professional teachers.
TUTORS: If you are interested in becoming a Library ELL tutor, please reach out to brkenglish@minlib.net and an ELL coordinator will get in touch.
LEARNERS: To participate in the tutoring program ELL learners need to
- be over 18 years old
- live in Brookline or the Greater Boston Area for the duration of the tutoring term
- know English at a beginner level or higher
- use email to communicate with the program coordinators and the tutor
- fill out an online waitlist application. The waitlist opens twice a year: in January and August
