Meeting of the Garden Club of Brookline

Learn something new at the April 12 meeting of the Garden Club of Brookline. Patricia Spence will tell us about the Urban Farming Institute, whose mission is to “develop and promote urban farming to engage individuals in growing food and building a healthy community”. Pat is the President and CEO of this award-winning nonprofit organization which was founded in 2012.

The Urban Farming Institute is headquartered at the Fowler Clark Epstein Farm in Mattapan. The farm and the work of the Urban Farming Institute are featured in the Winter 2022 issue of Historic New England so this program could not be more timely. As we enter the 2022 growing season, come learn about the UFI’s work acquiring land and building farms, managing farms in several neighborhoods in Boston, training farmers, and advocating for urban farms. If you have eaten at Area Four, Mei Mei, City Fresh Foods, Dudley Cafe, or Fresh Food Generation, you have likely eaten food grown at one of the farms managed by the Urban Farming Institute.
