What is this?
The Library Guild is a forum for teens to help plan and present programming and services for their fellow teens at the Brookline Public Library with the guidance of the Teen Librarian and library staff. The group will present innovative workshops, plan community service events, and improve the collections and services at the library. Certain club events will count toward community service credit at Brookline High School. Planned events include student-hosted technology workshops for seniors, story times for younger children, and workshops including cooking and creative writing.
Who can join?
Any teen who lives or goes to school in Brookline is welcome to join. You must be in grades 7 up to 12 to join.
When does the Guild meet?
We are meeting one every other month, usually the third Tuesday of the month from 5:00-6:00pm. We will also meet when planning our special events -- those meetings will be decided through consensus online (on Facebook and potentially via live chat discussions) as well as at our in-person meetings. Our in-person meetings this year are currently scheduled for October 20, December 15, February 16, April 20, and June 15. Be sure to check on the calendar to see if the schedule changes!
Why would I want to join The Guild?
Join the Guild if you want to have a say in what's happening for teens at the library and in Brookline. Join us if you want the opportunity to make a difference.
Can I get community service for joining and participating in the The Guild?
YES! You are volunteering your time and thoughts to the library. If your school requires community service, joining the Guild definitely counts.
